Expanding on my last blog about the mental game of Stress-free Trading, today I turn to your actual physical comfort. One of the many benefits of running your own home-based trading company is the wardrobe is completely up to you.
After exiting the daily office commute routine 5-6 days per week, a lot of other routine changes were on the table as well. My motorized 100-plus tie rack, along with my pressed white shirts and trousers, polished shoes, and the argyle socks were also moved to the back of the closet.
A recent post in the WSJ alludes to increased productivity when you are dressing for comfort. Besides the time saved in mixing and matching today’s wear, you also save time on grooming, make-up, hair styling and the like. No one need be impressed anymore. That can be saved for celebrations out after taking some hefty profits from the markets.
On the other hand, if you feel most productive only when you are showered, groomed and in your finest threads, then make it so. The idea is for you to be the creator instead of society dictating to you what is acceptable. You create your trading hours, types of trades, instruments traded, etc. Your wardrobe is simply an extension of your own business. You make the rules.
In a future post I will expand on the best ergonomics for traders, including monitors, chair selection and lighting, to name a few.
