Trading for a Life

You may have read or be familiar with Alexander Elder’s excellent book The New Trading for a Living. There he covers the very real possibility for good traders to become consistent enough over time to trade for their sole source of income and a living.

Expanding beyond Elder’s book is the lifestyle freedom allowed by forming your own trading company.  By expanding into your own profitable trading business, you will also be enhancing the opportunities for your life.  And perhaps, escaping some areas of employment you dislike.

You know the choices for your trades are vast. From equities and options to currencies, crypto, and commodities, there’s something for everyone. You can trade 24 hours per day internationally in whatever time zone you prefer. You can work when and only if you want to. The ability to work from home is not only in vogue, in pandemics like we just endured, it’s advantageous.

Think about how much employees spend on transportation alone going to and from their workplace. A vehicle, insurance, fuel, and maintenance add up. How much time is spent sitting in your car every day going to and from work? When added up, it equals about 152 hours every year spent in the car on your way to work. Those hours work out to about 19 full workdays each year. So, the average American loses around 19 workdays each year just being on the road. I don’t miss that a bit.

The luxury of a home-based business is incredible, and even if you are a part-time trader eventually looking to moving to full time as a profession, trading frees up a lot of time to expand your lifestyle choices. Most traders who enter this business do so gradually by starting their business while still working another job. It’s likely you already have a mental list of all reasons you would like to do this.
